GCSCC Co-hosts AI Cybersecurity Readiness Workshop in Singapore

In March 2025 the GCSCC partnered with Plexal for a two-day workshop in Singapore as part of the UK Government’s Laboratory for AI Security Research (LASR) initiative. The workshop brought together experts from industry, government agencies, academia and international organisation for discussions on industry AI adoption and barriers for industry and on the Centre’s National AI Cybersecurity Readiness Metric.

Industry Implications, barriers and solutions for secure AI development

The first part of the workshop centred on industry engagement and discussions on how cybersecurity is playing a leading role in defining the rate of AI adoption across Singapore. The workshop examined AI adoption maturity in companies, the need for cybersecurity across the AI lifecycle, the global AI security solutions landscape, key actions for industry leaders, and steps to manage AI cyber risk effectively.

A Tool for Resilient National AI Adoption

The second part of the workshop focused on the National AI Cybersecurity Readiness Metric, a new diagnostic tool designed by the GCSCC to assist countries navigate the cybersecurity risks of AI adoption by understanding their existing preparedness. Following initial trials of the metric in Mongolia and Cyprus, the workshop provided an opportunity for the GCSCC researchers to discuss the Metric with experts from Singapore and the ASEAN region and analyse key insights from its first applications.

Intended for global adoption, the GCSCC is socialising the Metric with a broad range of international stakeholders to design a comprehensive product that is suitable for diverse implementation. Singapore was the first in-person regional consultations to capture the unique expertise of AI cybersecurity professionals working in a variety of economic and cultural contexts. Understanding the different barriers and solutions regional experts have identified to securely adopt and leverage AI, is central to developing a robust picture of national AI cybersecurity capacities within Metric.  From international law enforcement experts to business leaders and government specialists, the workshop provided an opportunity for stakeholders to explore challenges and solutions to AI cybersecurity and contribute to the design of a more precise and impactful tool.

Overall, the event marked a milestone in the GCSCC’s efforts to develop practical means for advancing AI cybersecurity. An emergent theme from the Centre’s initial metric trials and expert discussions is the pressing need for implementable guidance on how countries, organisations and individuals can effectively navigate adopting and securing AI. As such, through this work the GCSCC is striving to help provide tangible solutions that meet global demands and help stakeholders leverage the risks and rewards of AI.
